The cadence of this day for buy RuneScape gold attendees involved seeing distinct panels and demonstrations on the primary point, hanging out and doing different game-centric challenges in the dream land installment, mingling with gamers and what looked to be an army of Jagex personnel, and heading upstairs into a enormous room setup with countless PCs to test out all the new things that were declared at RuneFest.
Relevant to me personally was an demo area with loads of cellular devices set up revealing both the mobile customers for RS3 and OSRS. Obviously, these are not just hanging out in the open, rather, to play the mobile versions you needed to make your way around a bridge, via a marketplace of artisans making things like plate and chainmail armor, across a faux forest, passed some steaming lava pits, before you arrived into a snowy mountain that you could enter. Inside, there were tavern tables, and flickering lanterns setting the scene.
As far as playing the authentic mobile customers are involved, they work about as well as you expect if you’ve ever played with a game intended for a keyboard and mouse that has been adapted to mobile. The ports of RS3 and OSRS are pretty extensive, and the different widgets, widgets, and purposes are represented by buttons on screen. Tapping on things is the same as left clicking onto the PC, while holding and tapping brings up the context menu that you would get from a click.
It faithful to the background experience, which I can view as a bad thing and a fantastic thing. Good in that if you’re playing in your personal computer at home you could log on mobile and be just where you left off, completely seamlessly, and do whatever you would actually do on your own PC. Bad because some things can be clunky, even at the game. Obviously, Jagex is quick to point out that both clients are in beta right now, and they have got things to work through. I will be very curious to see what balance they manage to strike between having this whole seamless experience while using a portable UI that goes beyond just being completely functional and begins edging into being a great way to play with making money on runescape the game for long periods of time- Or perhaps even the way you only play the game.
